Fukae Heritage Museum Annex

A nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property remaining in the heart of Osaka that features traditional Japanese architecture

Fukae Heritage Museum Annex is a purely Japanese-style building renovated from the former Koda family residence (built in 1935) in Fukae, a region which flourished during the Edo period as a stop for pilgrims traveling to Ise Shrine. Complete with a pristine and authentic Japanese garden, the building features a formal reception room and a tea room. The traditional front gate and various storehouses maintain the appearance of the early Showa period. In the annex and adjacent main building, you’ll find exhibits such as life-sized replicas of sugegasa (bamboo hats and umbrellas) dedicated to Ise Shrine, and works by people registered as Living National Treasures who crafted sacred mirrors for shrine offerings. Visitors can learn about the historical connection between the Fukae area and Ise Shrine, experience traditional local culture, and enjoy meals or tea gatherings at the on-site restaurant.
