Kansai International Airport (KIX) is undergoing a large-scale renovation of Terminal 1 (T1) for the first time since its opening in 1994. With the concepts of “expand international capacity,” “enhance airside area,” and “improve passenger experience,” KIX will expand the capacity of international flights and enhance its commercial and dining zones to greatly upgrade the attractiveness of the airport. At the same time, KIX promotes fast travel by utilizing technologies such as self-check-in to provide a smooth journey with less waiting time.

The commercial area in the airside will be greatly expanded, with an opening of new restaurants and shops rich in Kansai color, including an okonomiyaki (savory pancake) restaurant from Osaka and a tempura specialty restaurant from Kyoto, and a new domestic lounge accessible to eligible passengers.

KIX plans to further renovate the airport in the future aiming for a grand opening in conjunction with the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. Once completed, the entire KIX will be able to accommodate 40 million international passengers annually. KIX will steadily take initiatives to respond to future aviation demand, while aiming to be an airport where passengers can have comfortable and new travel experiences.

With the Expo Osaka Kansai to be held in 2025, Osaka is expected to host many business meetings and events. Osaka Convention& Tourism Bureau welcomes in-person business meetings and events. We believe the Kansai International Airport Renovation Project will improve convenience for both organizers and participants of meetings and events held in Osaka, and further enhance the attractiveness of the city.

In the general area in front of the security checkpoint, a total of seven food court "Tasty Street" restaurants (six food and beverage restaurants and one merchandise shop) opened in advance on October 1, 2022 (Saturday). This will cater to the various needs of airplane passengers as well as those who are seeing off/picking up passengers and passengers staying late at night.
