Using the official colors of Osaka and Sakai, the letter “i” in Sakai has been designed in the shape of the Old Sakai Lighthouse, which has historically been a symbol of trade for Osaka and represents the momentum that the region fosters in economic development.
The G7 Summit and Ministerial Meetings
The G7 Summit is an annual meeting between the leaders of the seven nations of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the European Union's Commission President and Council President. The leaders of the G7, who share the same basic values on principles such as freedom, democracy, and human rights, meet at the same table in order to discuss global issues in-depth.
The 2023 G7 Summit, to be held in Hiroshima in May, will be the 7th time Japan has hosted the event. Other high-ranking officials of the G7 and the EU meet throughout the year within the host country, and it is the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting that will be held in Osaka and Sakai in October.
In order to foster success for the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting and to use the meeting as an opportunity to promote Osaka, Sakai, and the Kansai region to the world, Osaka prefecture, Sakai city, and the local economic sector have together formed a promotional council that will lend its support and assistance to the meeting and its projects. Formed on September 30, 2022, this council is made up of Osaka prefecture, Sakai city, the Kansai Economic Federation, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kansai Association of Corporate Executives, the Sakai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau.
