Sakai Area MICE: An area where tradition and culture come alive
Area MICE Sakai
Osaka’s MICE Areas are nine urban areas across Osaka that each feature tight-knit collaboration among the facilities and suppliers in the area to provide exceptional service for meetings and events. For this sixth installment,we feature Sakai, a district that embodies the living traditions and cultural heritage of Osaka.

Located in the southern part of Osaka Prefecture, Sakai City is conveniently accessible from central Osaka, with Namba just 15 minutes away by train. Known as the “Venice of the East” during the Sengoku period, Sakai flourished as an international trading city and continues to preserve a rich legacy of history, culture, and innovation.
In addition to hosting MICE events, Sakai offers a wide range of post-MICE programs and unique visitor experiences. Participants can take technical visits to advanced technology facilities such as the Sakai Next-Generation Energy Park, one of Japan’s leading hubs for next-generation energy supply and development. The city also provides opportunities to explore the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group, including the Emperor Nintoku Mausoleum, the largest ancient tomb mound in the world and part of Osaka’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can further engage with Sakai’s traditional industries through factory tours and hands-on cultural experiences.
Demonstrating its commitment to the MICE sector, Sakai hosted the reception for the G7 Osaka-Sakai Trade Ministers’ Meeting in 2023, further strengthening its reputation as a destination for international business events.
Another distinctive attraction is the Osaka Sakai Balloon, which commenced operations in 2025. From an altitude of approximately 100 meters, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group, including the Emperor Nintoku Mausoleum, as well as the cityscape of Sakai. This one-of-a-kind experience offers a memorable way to discover the city’s unique blend of heritage, innovation, and urban charm.

Opened in October 2019, the city’s premier performing arts venue, Fenice Sacay, serves as a versatile facility for both cultural events and MICE functions. The venue features a classical-style 2,000-seat Grand Hall with a striking red-and-black interior, a 312-seat Small Hall suitable for academic presentations and lectures, and four meeting rooms that can accommodate breakout sessions and smaller gatherings. Additional facilities include studios, a rooftop garden, and an open galleria space.
An Italian restaurant is also located within the adjacent park, providing convenient dining options for event participants. With its comprehensive facilities and flexible event spaces, Fenice Sacay is well equipped to host large-scale MICE events in Sakai City.
